WHERE WE BEGAN

It all started in July 2007 in a double wide trailer on Hwy 105 in Beaumont, TX with a group of people determined to do a work for God. Faithfully, these people met for church every Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Wednesday night, coming with expectation to hear a word from God. There were no instruments to begin with...just the praise team singing a capella. Sunday School was held in a small room and the preaching happened in the living room. Everyone sat wherever they could find a seat - the recliner, love seat, couch, extra chairs, and sometimes even the floor. Parking was in the front yard or wherever a spot could be found that wasn't muddy.

This was an unusual setting for worship, but the power of God filled that little double wide trailer time and time again. When the Spirit fell and people began to shout, it wasn't uncommon to see people running out the front door and into the yard just to have a little dancing room! There were a few times when the integrity of the floors was put to the test from all the dancing and shouting, but the floor must have been supported by the hand of God!

Soon after, it became even more crowded by the presence of a full-sized electric keyboard and bass guitar in the dining room. Music brought the dynamics of the service to a higher level. Quite frequently, when the service started jamming and the Spirit started moving, the bass player's head would hit the low hanging light by the dining room table! Everyone decided that it was time to look for a building.

After much prayer and fasting, Bro. Rex and Sis. Linda Simmons were led by God to an empty building sitting on 4 acres on Hwy 90. With time and by God's grace, the purchasing process began and Acts 2 Ministries was born.

WHERE WE ARE NOW

Having been the Director of World Missions for the ALJC Texas District since 2018, Bro. Simmons soon felt the call of God to devote greater time to that position. With prayer, fasting, and a confirming word from God, he resigned as Pastor of Acts 2 Ministries in May 2020.

At that time, Bro. Calvin Odom stepped in as interim Pastor and on June 28, 2020, the Acts 2 church body voted unanimously to elect Bro. Calvin and Sis. Kathleen Odom as full-time Pastor.

Bro. and Sis. Odom have been with Acts 2 Ministries from its humble beginnings in the double wide trailer and have worn many hats: painter, sound engineer, handyman, and music director (just to name a few). Now the roles of Pastor and First Lady are added to that list, and they are extremely excited to step into the well-worn shoes left by Bishop and Former First Lady Simmons and continue leading the church in its mission to reach people in Southeast Texas and beyond!

WHERE WE'RE GOING

But the vision does not stop there - it is Acts 2 Ministries' goal to build two more sanctuaries on the property in the coming future. The final building will be the main sanctuary and the previous buildings will become a family life center and multipurpose building. While waiting, Acts 2 hopes to develop much needed ministries for the homeless, the elderly, and the Hispanic community.
