"Lord, let them make good choices and right decisions."
These are the words that were almost sure to be heard from Sis. Linda Diane Simmons, our beloved former First Lady, in the prayer room before every service. This short refrain was intended not only for her loved ones, but also for the loved ones of her church family. One unwavering fact was always clearly evident: she prayed for everyone and their loved ones just as fervently as if they were her own. Many times, the volume of her weeping and calling out the names of her church family's loved ones overpowered the supplications of others in the prayer room. If there was a need to be prayed over, it was known beyond a shadow of a doubt that our former First Lady would reach the throne room with everything within her.
A sweet woman with a quirky sense of humor, Sis. Simmons often mentioned her deep shyness as a child. Bits and pieces of that shyness still clung to her into adulthood, but when she was given any opportunity to speak of Jesus, she became a bold woman of God, unafraid to proclaim what He had done for her. And God had indeed brought her through many things. Just as the butterfly (which Sis. Simmons so dearly loved) requires many struggles along its journey to beauty, her own path was not so easy, being filled with loss of loved ones, disappointment, and discouragement. Yet, at the end of it all, she was all the stronger because of her trials.
A faithful servant to the end, Sis. Simmons left this weary world behind and went into the loving arms of her Savior on August 7, 2020.
